photographer Erin Patrice O'Brien
See the email.
The inspiration for photographer Erin Patrice O'Brien's email design is her company logo. The colors cascade down from a warm pink hue down to a cool deep blue. It's the first thing you see when visiting her website. The play with color continues in the navigation in the website portfolio.
Matching this branding, the email is designed to draw attention to the use of colors, while accenting the vibrant energy of Erin's photography.
This feeling extends through the email marketing, such as forwarding the email, joining the email list, and the archive. |

| ASMPNY FOCUSED - American Society of Media Photographers, New York chapter.

See the email archive.
See all archived issues. From December 2008 through June 2010, I designed and edited the e-mail newsletter “FOCUSED” and media sponsors for this organization. I was a board member of the society and was asked to redesign the newsletter based on my design portfolio. The number of subscribers increased from eight hundred to over three thousand seven hundred in the first eight months since I launched the redesigned newsletter in January 2009.
Instead of sending out the newsletters randomly (as the previous person had who edited and delivered the newsletters), I sent out the newsletter at the beginning of each month and reminder e-mails were sent out the day before each event. Each newsletter is given a title in the subject line so that it is clear if it is a monthly newsletter, reminder email, or sponsor newsletter from the organization. This reduced the number of newsletters sent out and the cost of delivering them.
Using the same design and branding for the newsletter established a sense of familiarity for the subscribers, making it quick and easy to navigate each issue.
Event attendance increased since the redesign causing many events to be full or over capacity. Before the redesign, most events were only half-capacity.
Sending the newsletter as an e-mail instead in print, sent by mail, has eliminated use of paper and allows access to the information from anywhere one has internet access.
Creating the newsletter has allowed me to expand my design services, which includes website design, blogs, and other social networking media, so that I can create greater internet marketing presence for my clients. |

ASMPCT CONNECT - American Society of Media Photographers, Connecticut chapter.

See the email archive.
Inspired by my work for the New York chapter of ASMP, the Connecticut chapter asked me to redesign their newsletter.
The new name for the newsletter, "connect," incorporates the initials of Connecticut (CT) along with the concept that the organization wants its members to feel more connected. Also, using the same font, spacing, and color for the letters creates graphic and branding continuity with the national organization. |
